We're (again) trying to find players to start playing in Berkeley and San Francisco. Let us know if you're interested. |
What the h*** is this "floorball" stuff anyway??? Well, it's a kind of icehockey-like sport, only there's no ice and no puck and the sport is normally not quite as violent as icehockey...
Essentially, you play it on a court with shoes on your feet and a plastic stick in your hands. Instead of a puck, you use a very light plastic ball, slightly larger than a tennis ball. Instead of using your fists and elbows, you use your brain and technique (at least some of us do). It's a lot of fun and plenty of exercise and sweat.
Floorball originated in Sweden sometimes in the 1970s, and has since been spreading like a virus across northern and central europe. It is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. In North America, it is still only played at a handful universities, and as far as we know, we are the first non-academic club. If you're interested in playing, send us an email! In principle, we're open to the public, but there may not always be room for new players.
We try to play by the International Floorball Federation's rules, although we're not always successful (hence the name of our club...). Seriously, we do pretty well with that these days.
Our home base is on Castro Street in Mountain View. We currently play twice a week, Mondays and Thursdays. We have a mailing list at Yahoo, with play calendar and other stuff. Click below to join.

Just when we started out in 1996, we won the West Coast Championships of floorball in the US even though we had only played once together before the tournament. You can read more about the victory here
Since then we have been at a few tournaments in Fresno, most of which we've won, and according to the international floorball press, we're the best team in the USA! That may say more about this country than about us, but still!
Here are some links to floorball organizations throughout the US and Europe (just for the records - we are not affiliated with any of the organizations mentioned below):

Swedish Floorball Association
International Floorball Federation
