Your method is WONDERFUL! mainly because there is no algorithm to memorize for the first two layers. But I actually do 2min 30sec with layer-by-layer method and 2min 40sec with your method - it takes me too long to find the correct pieces... :-\
GREAT WORK!!! And thank you.

Rubiks CUBE beginner TIPS!!! here's my suggestion: I'm a beginner. Last night, I came here to check out your method. Step 4b really is the hardest.. (it takes me like an hour to get it to work moving only two sides, especially if i have that darn broken corner)... I'm not going for speed, but now I can do it in about 10 minutes, just a day later =) here's what i do: after fixing bad edges, I place the corners for the final part of the first 2 layers (oriented correctly)... then I use ALLAN to place the edge cubies.. this way I never get stuck, and I can do it fast enough to keep me happy.. (that should be in your beginner section, perhaps I'll email you sometime, ciao)
THANKS LARS!

Plus! I saved a cube from an emminent and horrible death. There are many ways to solve the cubem visit
http://www.chrisloanshome.8m.com\Rubics_Cube\cube_complete.htm for an alternative method that actually starts with the one side fully complete.
It is not the fastest, about 4 minutes, but it is the easiest to remember even after months of no cubing.
If speed cubing is your goal then this is your site, if completeing the cube is your goal then visit the afore mentioned site.
There is also an article, entitled, The cube, do you hate it or love it? The article compares the art of speed cubing to ability of solving the cube.
The article can be found at

Thanks for the cubing site. It is very well laid out and explained. I started out a while back, learning how to solve a cube for the first time by using your beginner method and have since gone to the intermediate techniques and am now going for the advanced ones. My times started at several minutes (5 or more), down to 2-3 minutes, down to 2 minutes, to 80-90 seconds, to 60 seconds flat for a very long time, and now down to around 45. My long term goal has always been to get to 30 seconds. That that point, I will have to evaluate if I REALLY want to go further, or practice another discipline (like blindfold cubing :)

Thanks for the cube site--I'm three dimensionally retarted, I think. I had trouble making my bed when I was a kid--I couldn't get all the edges to line up. But thanks to your site, I can now solve my Rubik's cube. I find memorization the hardest part of the solution, even though your solution doesn't require as much memorization as some of the other solutions I've seen.
Thanks!

Your site is amazing! I first started cubing with a really slow method, (Top then bottom then middle), then I moved on to the layer method, and then I found your method, and it is definitely faster than the layer method. I really appreciate your use of java cubes instead of notation, most sites I have looked at use notation that is different than what I am used to, or they havent clarified the purpose of each algorithm, but with the Java cubes it is easy to see what is moving and what the end result is. Using your method has shaved my time from 1 minute to 30 seconds. Thanks again, I love your site!

great site lars !
I first did the cube back in 81 (I had the book) I still have never met anyone else who can solve it, I have done it using the layer method since then(I was 14 back then) and I still use the same method, it is burnt into my brain, I can just pick it up after years of not doing it and still solve it in about 1min 20 secs , I dont think i can learn another method of doing it because i dont want to spend time on the cube when I am trying to learn html and javascript , good luck

10 minutes - my time to peel off all the stickers and rearrange them perfectly back on the thingy. (i'm artisitc and picky, so they have to be perfectly rearranged.)
3 minutes - my time to dismantle the thingy to little block pieces and then piece them back together like Lego.
79 seconds - my fastest time (legitimate twisting) to solve the thingy before I found this page.
49 seconds - my new record time using Lars' proven method.
I'm nowhere close to worldclass speed, but I'm still very happy to join the sub-minute cube twisting club. Commercial breaks never seemed so fun. I'm twisting it everywhere. I rediscovered my addiction. I even sometimes find myself spending more time in the bathroom even though primary mission is achieved. ok... enough info.
thanks LARS!

Tjenare Lars.

Lars:
I have been solving the cube since it came out in the early 1980s.
I have solved it over 10,000 times. I use the layer method and until I seen your site on the web, I didn't know that there was any other way to solve it. Your technique is fascinating. My best time is 50 seconds, where I timed myself. I ususlly solve it in less then a minute, every one in twelve times. I have the solution on an 8 1/2
I don't own a computer and do not have access to one on a continuing basis. So I am not submitting my name. Hope you understand. I just wanted to exchange some infomation with a world class Rubiks Cubist. Your site is first rate. Very intresting and easy to understand.

Hej, Lars!
